Religious Education at St. Lucy Parish

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!”  When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus. Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”  They said, “Rabbi, where are you staying?”

“Come,” he replied, “and you will see.” (Jn 1:29, 34-39)

The parish is a center for evangelization and a "school" for instructing and preparing disciples to fearlessly follow our Lord Jesus Christ. It is also a "home" for disciples, a place where we encounter the living person Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, in the Word of God, and in each other.

Our Faith Formation Program is one of the ways that we bring our young people to an encounter of the living God in Jesus: They discover what it means to know him, to love him and to follow him as members of his Church, forgiven of our sins and renewed through the Sacraments. They learn how to be a disciple of our Lord and how to grow in friendship with him (Jn 15:15).

Our program--like the ministry of the Apostles--rests on the witness of our teachers (fellow parishioners, parents, and other youth) and the proclamation of the Gospel. It includes formal instruction and youth ministry. We invite you to join us for Sunday Worship and welcome you to discover the truth and beauty of our Lord's teaching at any of our faith formation sessions.

FAITH FORMATION AND FIRST COMMUNION PREPARATION

Religious Education Classes meet every other Sunday beginning in September.

  •         1st through 7th grade meets every other Sunday in the morning.

  •         8th grade meets every other Monday from 4:00-5:00pm

First Communion Preparation usually begins in the second grade. Preparation begins with instruction in the Sacrament of Reconciliation and concludes with reception of the Sacrament of Holy Eucharist in the spring. For more information, please contact Karl Jackson.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATION

St. Lucy's Parish has a 2-year Confirmation Preparation Program. Preparation usually begins in the Fall of the freshman year of high school and continues through the Spring of the sophomore year. The Confirmation Mass takes place in May.

Confirmation is not graduation. Once students have receive the Sacrament of Confirmation, they are encouraged and invited to continue living their faith in our (their) parish community by continuing to attending the Sacrifice of the Mass on Sundays and joining us for youth ministry opportunities and serving in one or several of the many ministries of our parish.

MEETINGS

We meet twice each month to be instructed and trained in the Sacrament of Confirmation and discipleship. The meetings are essential for coming to understanding God, the Church, and ourselves. As such, candidates for Confirmation are expected to attend all classes.

We will tackle such questions as: What does it mean to follow Jesus? Why does it matter if I follow Jesus? What does he want us to do and why should we do what he says? What is the Sacrament of Confirmation and what will it do to me? Who is the Holy Spirit? What is the Church and what does it have to do with following Jesus? What role does my parish play in discipleship? These and many other questions are addressed so that the young people preparing to receive the Sacrament may know the great value of Christianity and what it means for their lives.
