Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the
life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (Jn 14:6).
Welcome to the Catholic Parishes of St. Monica and St. Lucy in Methuen!
We’re so glad you’ve taken this step to continue to build up the faith of your family. We want you to know that faith formation (formerly CCD) isn’t just for children. In fact, while it is true that Our Lord asks us to be like little children, he does indeed call men and women—mature adults—to follow him to the Father’s House.
No matter where you might be on your journey of faith, we invite you to reach out to us to find ways that you can discover God’s plan for you. A great way to start is attend Sunday Mass. You can find our full worship scheduled here.
Another great way to begin is to join one of our groups. Each group appeals to a different moment in our faith journey and include an opportunity to meet great people, enjoy refreshments, study, and/or just ask questions about whatever is on your mind. You can learn more about these opportunities by going here.
If you’d like to speak with a priest, please reach out to us here or call the office at (978) 683-1193.

Faith Formation and Sacrament Preparation
The best faith formation and preparation for the reception of the sacraments is attending Sunday Mass together as a family and living a life of faith in the home. This includes praying together, encouraging one another to keep the commandments, and serving each other in kindness and charity.
These preparations help to instill a disposition that is aware of and open to the work of God in our lives, ready to respond generously to his wise and saving will for us.
Kindergarten through Seventh Grade
We have faith formation for kindergarten through seventh grade students every other Sunday from September to April. Our program consists of three parts:
Mass Preparation which takes place twenty minutes before the Family Mass at St. Monica (9:30am) and St. Lucy (9:00am)
Mass itself; and
Catechism lesson for children for 1 hour, beginning immediately after Mass. (during this time we have refreshments for families as well! We’d love to have you join us.)
We have an eighth grade bible study from 4:00-5:00pm, two to three Monday afternoons per month from September to April.
Home Teaching (non-sacrament preparation years only)
Families who are unable to make the regularly scheduled classes may choose to home teach their children. Registration is the same process, but we ask that families indicate home teaching on the registration form. The Registration Fee is $50 for home teaching.
First Holy Communion Preparation meets during the same time as kindergarten through seventh grade classes meet, on Sunday mornings. Please indicate First Holy Communion Preparation on the registration form by writing FHC under the session.
First Holy Communion Preparation usually takes place at the end of the second grade. Older children are welcome to register for First Holy Communion Preparation as well!
First Holy Communions are usually celebrated in late April or early to mid May.
Confirmation Preparation for Youth usually begins in ninth grade and concludes with reception of the sacrament at the end of the tenth grade. Classes meet on Sunday afternoons. In addition to the class meetings, students are required to complete service hours, and a day-long (not overnight) retreat. Registration is the same. In addition to the annual registration fee, families are asked to pay a $50 retreat fee for each year of the program. The Sacrament of Confirmation is usually celebrated in late April or early May.
Confirmation Preparation for Adults takes place through our RCIA Program. Celebration of Confirmation for Adults is oftentimes part of the Easter Vigil Celebration.
