As you probably know, Methuen has reached "red zone" status on the state's COVID-19 map. Due to this increase in cases, the Archdiocese of Boston has added a few additional requirements in order to help with safety and notification.
We will have volunteers at the main entrances who are tasked with (1) taking temperatures and (2) recording a contact for each household at the Mass.
How will this look? As you approach the main entrance, the volunteer will scan your forehead with a contactless, infrared thermometer prior to entering the church. After the temperature check, parishioners will be asked to write down their first name and a phone number where they could be reached in the event that someone who attended that particular Mass was later found to test positive for COVID-19.
If the temperature check reads above 100.4 F, the person will not be permitted to enter the church. In order to avoid this situation, we encourage anyone attending Mass to check their temperatures before leaving their homes for Mass.
These extra procedures will remain in place so long as Methuen remains in the "red zone," of the COVID-19 map, which is updated weekly (and can be found here).
